It depends where you are letting them out, and how tame they are. Letting them go outside to live free? Yes, they will most likely die. Letting tame finches out in a bird safe room for a little free time with no dogs, cats or other animals around? No they would be fine in many cases. They arent in a cage in the wild. i agree with one answerer--if you let them out inside the house, they will most likely be fine, as long as there are no other pets about. if you let them outside, it's a toss-up whether they will survive or not. My finches mostly lived outside of their cage, they just went in to eat and drink. they spent most of their time in a weeping fig tree that I had. When I had them, they would get out once in a while. They would freak out and fly into the windows and end up in the strangest places, like a tiny (tiny) hole in the curtain, she was stuck to it! They are not the brightest little things. depends if you let them out into a giant mincer (not a homosexual) give them bigger cage dont let them free If you are talking about letting them free outside the answer is yes. They would fly away and not be able to fend for themselves.
If you let them out in a room in the house and supervise them and remove all hazards (close any doors and window open to the outiside, cover up any mirrors and windows so that they don't crash into them, cover any water such as toilets and aquariums) they will be okay. Be careful that they don't panic and get hurt and crash into things. Be calm and don't make fast movements. Don't leave them alone for a minute - they could get into something, hide where you can't find them. or get stepped or sat on. They will probably be a little hard to catch as most finches are not tame. Use a small handtowel or washcloth to gently grab them and put them back in their cage. They will probably learn to enjoy their "free time." Nope! If you set finches free, chances are they will be killed by bigger birds. sparrows even. Small birds need a stable enviorment,
