Will my budgie ever sing again?

My budgie Buba used to be a singing bird. He would stand and belt out the most wonderful songs, and you could see him really getting into it. Then his girl Bindi passed away, and he hasn't sung at all for three weeks. Barely makes any sounds at all. I know he is depressed, I am too. I got another budgie last week, a boy named Bandit. And they get along fine, no fighting at all. But I am worried about Buba, will he ever sing again? Has anyone had any experience?

AWW he was singing to his girl, it is different with another guy around.

You may want to get some girls for the both of them? If he was all by himself I would say put a mirror in there with him.

I love the sounds of our birds!! If either one of them went quiet I would be depressed.

Hope everything works out ok. I would think so, but it may take time. Did you get either of the bird checked by an avain vet? loss of voice and be a major sign of sickness. Unless you know the reason of the death of your first one it could be that both birds had the same problem. Budgies can form a strong bond to each other but that will past in a week to 10 days. They will not bond for life. Also a quantine period of a lest a month is recommended with a new bird to be sure that they are not carrying an illness that the stress of moving could bring out.

I would find the closest avian vet near you and book both of them in for a check up. It sounds of though it is missing Bindi and it may take time to adjust without Bindi around then you should hear it sing be careful it dont start to feather pluck hes or Bandits feathers out as that is an indication of stress. So just go slow around it.

It is good to hear it is getting along with Bandit. I would also get Buba checked out by the vet IMMEDIATELY as you dont know what the other one died off and it may also spread to Bandit.
