Will this work or what?

Brief：
I live in a town house complex(no backyard) my Mom was thinking about getting a minature lemon tree or something to put on my parents balcony. But wha.. 

I live in a town house complex(no backyard) my Mom was thinking about getting a minature lemon tree or something to put on my parents balcony. But what I wanted to know is if putting a small tree on our balcony will attract birds that are breeding in the spring?

No jokes allowed!

Hardly anyone goes out onto the balcony except for our pug.

IF you're expecting to plant a small tree (miniture) you shouldn't have to worry about any birds making a nest. The branches of a small tree aren't attractive enough to birds to nest in.. If that's your concern. :) Plus being in a semibusy area they wouldn't nest there anyway. yes The tree will not be sturdy enough for a nest. Set up bird feeders to attract birds. The birds will probably completely ignore the balcony, especially if you let the pug out there regularly. Most birds that would fly up as high as a balcony would prefer a tree with enough height for them to feel safe and a small tree wouldn't give that security. I don't think you'll be infested with birds. If want to attract birds, set out some bird feeders. Are you trying to attact birds or not? A small tree may attract mourning doves as a place to nest.they are not picky nesters. A friend of mine had a rubber tree plant in front of her door and a dove nested in it! My sister had one nest in a plant hanger in her yard. Other birds may use is as a perching place. no fair i like jokes hi why not put a small tree out on the balcony but hang up some bird feeders containing small black sunflower seeds,mixed wild bird seeds and a little water fountain.

the birds will come just have patience and they become semi tame when feeding chicks even if the nest is not in sight.it is quite possible they will not even be afraid of the pug because they do live on different levels.

if you could create a platform approx 9 inches square with a lip on the outside about 2 inches high made out of timber and then fasten it secure about head height you stand a good chance of encouraging the doves.

good luck and go for it. you can also try putting a hanging bird house this will attract them as well. plus buy a bird feeder there are a number of different ways of attracting birds get yourself a book or look it up on the net . .happy bird watching
