Young budgie?

I bought my friend a baby budie the other day (about 6 weeks old) and it has been at his place for nearly a week. Its getting used to its surroundings.. 

I bought my friend a baby budie the other day (about 6 weeks old) and it has been at his place for nearly a week. It's getting used to its surroundings, is eating, sitting on his finger and shoulder. However, it is very quiet and doesn't churp or make any sound. How can my friend encourage the bird to be talkative? I told him to talk to the bird more. Is there anything else that can be done to encourage some personality to develop in the budgie or is it still too young to be talking/churping. Also, it's not showing any signs of illness.

It is VERY young. It is doing well with sitting on his finger and shoulder and it should continue to respond in other ways as it goes along. Your friend will - with paying attention to how to Care for and Socialize a budgie - will see improvement in their correspondance with each other-either verbally and/or physically. It does take attendance and attention.

There are varaitions in personalities in Birds as in other animals and people. And even if it ends up a quieter one in the Future - this may be better then a noisier one-some of them can get to be a bummer if too noisy. I had one of both and they did their different thing with me and with each other. And both were entertaining in their own way.

If another bird is joined with this one too soon it will pay more attention to the other bird then its owner. The LONGER time alone - with your friend training it - the more chance of it bonding to him. And then Later if there is a desire for another companion for it - it can be done and maybe still retain some bond with him and this other bird. It was sucessful with mine.
