.you know i have 11 birds and 6 are parakeets..now ,i know alot about birds but this time i'm truly baffled. the parakeets are in a big cockatiel cage and have been for YEARS,the past week or so,,one particular parakeet keeps getting out. some way some how. i've searched the cage up and down..i've looked at all the bars ,,they're in great shape..there's no hole or anything ,,,how does he get out? the space between the bars are the regular size for parakeet or cockatiel.can't get their head through them..so tell me..how do you think this bird is getting out?? they've never done this for years until recently!! birds do not have the ability to flatten their bodies like rodents and sqeeze through huh??

Everyone is right.they have learned how to open the cage!
The best story I ever heard about this was a Cockatoo who had figured out how to open his cage door. He'd done it so many times His Human Companions kept it locked with a keyed padlock. Eventually, he figured out how to stretch his leg out through the cage bars to get the key off the nail on the wall. He got the key, opened the lock on the cage latch, opened the door, got out, shut the door and relocked the padlock.
The finale?
He dropped the key into the locked cage, climbed on top of the cage and waited. When his people came home, he began laughing hysterically.
They found out why he was laughing when they discovered that they had to dismantle the cage in order to retrieve the key.
