She is 15 years old and I haven't changed her food but in the past couple of weeks when she goes in her litter box there is a really bad odor. She also seems to be drinking a bit more than she used to. Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm starting to get a bit concerned.

You need to take her to the vet. Older cats develope diabetes and it causes the symptome she is having. Good Luck! Bad diet or she ate something like a rat or a bird. since it has been a few weeks, i would go ahead and make an appointment for the vet. since its getting older, it is important to be more cautious. I have a 5 month old kitten has the same odor problem..I don't know what causes it. If your cat's poo is looking runny or other problems, you may want to take her in to get checked by the vet. I would take her to the vet. One of my older cats has kidney problems and she drinks more water than usual and her poop kind of smells worse than normal. She is OK on a special diet (Science Diet KD) and she takes antibiotics off and on. But it's important to catch the problem early.best wishes. She has an upset tummy or something is wrong, infection maybe. Usually when you notice an abnormal water usage or that smell, something is going on, but don't deprive her of it. Maybe they changed the recipe in the food she is eating. If you can without bothering her, try to see what her stool looks like, if it looks abnormal, well, then you know something is going on. make sure none of it sticks to her fur near her behind. maybe you should try to change her food, to the really good stuff, for seniors or fancy feast or pet gold, science diet or something like that. I bet you are already feeding her this, so hope i didn't offend you. I can tell you take good care of her. I would call the vet's and ask some questions and has she ever had a stool sample test? Hi June.usually changes are symptomatic of medical illness. Senior cats who drink more water (polydipsia) than usual generally indicates feline chronic renal failure (CRF). Here's a website about CRF: http://www.felinecrf.com/what0.shtml.
CRF cats need to see a vet as soon as possible.left untreated the cat will become severly dehydrated and go into renal failure and pass away shortly afterwards.
Feline Diabetes can be a possibility as well, however both require blood and urinalysis to rule out one or the other in order to receive proper medical treatment.
Science Diet k/d or Purina NF--are both renal support foods for cats who are showing symptoms of renal failure prescribed by a vet and sold only in clinics. a diet change
