Why does this happen?

The hair is from the undercoat, which is usually just one color.

Your cat’s fur is comprised of two types of coat, the undercoat and top coat. When cats shed their fur, usually the undercoat sheds first, but it does not drop like the coat of a dog. Instead, the loose hair from the undercoat remains underneath the top coat. because with most multi colored cats, the colors that you see are just the top coat. If you cat is a long haired variety, the undercoat (which you don't really see) is usually one light color. So when you brush your cat you are pulling the undercoat out from the top coat. Most animals with an undercoat shed that hair first and then just a few hairs from the top coat. If you push aside the colored top coat you will see the more dense almost cotton like undercoat that they use as their thermometer, to regulate their body temperature.

Hope that helps :) It's because your cat is having a laugh with you, really she has a wig on so this is where the 5 colours come from but when you comb her you are only getting her real fur. you are brushing out the cats undercoat. this may also look a few seperate colours when you inspect them on the cat but when removed by the comb and looked at in a uniform light they will reflect one colour.
