My boyfriend and I just got a new cat that a lady said was nice. Little did we know it has been living on the streets for years possibly and that it was an older cat, which had never been inside. We have two other cats whom I love SO MUCH and my boyfriends mom said we should just put the ferral cat outside. I can't do that. It used to live in a city and we live in a country side. I don't want to just throw her out, seeing as how she knows nothing about this place. And the other problem is SHE HATES OTHER CATS. I don't know what to do or if she'll adjust.any suggestions or words that will help me feel better?

Answers:

O.K. This is what you should do. Put her outside the back door with a bowl of food and a bowl of water. She may immediately run away, but she will probably come back for the food and stay longer and longer each time so eventually she will live around your new home. Make sure she has been neutered and has had a rabies shot at the very least. If you can't approach her just put out a hav-a hart style trap with some food in it. Keep your tame cats closed up in another room when you do this. After the feral cat is in the trap take her for a trip to the vet's office. After you bring her home put her outside with the food. Unless she is really not with the program she will want to be near the easy food source. I have done this with a feral cat that was at my home when I moved in. It now lets me pet it and meows and does the leg rubbing routine. Just be patient-it could take a year or two. The cat is still in the process of adjustment to his new environment. Time will come, that he will get along with the others and live happily ever after. Like humans, they also have their own way of behavior that will eventually adopt to the environment. let her out! that's a vicious cat, you should either take it back and get a refund or sell it, or put it down. that cat is showing the warning signs that it's hostile, it's likely to attack you, a visitor, or your other cats, when that happens, you'll have to kill him anyway, so don't wait till it happens, take it down now and get out of this unscathed. If she is truly a feral cat, she won't mind being outside. Do you have a barn she can live in part of the time? We had a great indoor/outdoor cat. Then a black cat came by. We think it had been abused. Well, we took him in. They both hated each other. Both were males. Well, it's been about 3 years and after keeping them seperated in different rooms when they were in, they are finally able to be in the same room together. It will take time, but I think it can happen. We also have taken in 2 ferral cats, a brother and sister. It took awhile for them to get used to the other 2, but it did happen. Not all ferral cats are wild. These two aren't. They come from a mother who lives in some junk by our house who is on her 6th litter. Some of the cats let us pet them, some are scared. I feed them all, I am their only food source. I think if you really want to keep the cat, give it time. It's going to take shifting them from room to room, but I think it can work. It did for me. i think it would be better if you put him in a seperate part of your house like maybe you could transform your garage into a kitty haven! that would be nice for all your cats sometimes you have to say what the heck. this cat will be okay outside. set food and water out for it, it will be happier outside and you will be too. I had this problem once the kindest thing to do is have it put to sleep if u let it out it will kill native birds and animals. If u keep it it will be very unhappy and may take to biting and scratching u
