I have a 6 month old kitten and originally I planned on her to be a indoor cat because I think its better in a bunch of ways..Well I started to take her out on her leash for play times and just to enjoy the out side.I wouldn't let her stay out for to long just enough time to get addicted I guess..Well I have decided that this isn't working out for her or me because shes either gettting away or climbing poles or trees etc..Everytime my door opens she flees..I don't think I made the right decision in letting her out in the first place..I want her to be what I originally wanted , a indoor cat.the question is , can I wheen her off the out doors..i leave windows open for fresh air..I want to stop the outdoor thing completely..can it be done and if so how and any other advice would be helpful..I don't want to drive her nuts ..or depress her..i want to do it the healthy way for her sake..by the way, she has all her shots

Make her indoor environment fun & more tempting. I buy my cat wheat grass & keep it growing for her to chew on (at health food & some grocery stores). Catnip if she likes it, a nice kitty climber, corrugated cat scratcher (like at Trader Joe's or pet store), play with her a lot and get her a toy from Dr.'s Foster & Smith on line, it's called "Da Bird" and the feathers sound just like a bird flying by. Just like with a toddler, use the principle of substitution-tell her not only what she cannot have but replace it with what she can have . Also another kitten may be a thorough enough distraction to cause her to forget. Most of all patience, you can outlast her. Many cats despise the feeling of Astro Turf under their feet, so putting a large door mat of that type inside & outside the door is another negative reenforcement.Good for you for keeping her inside, cats are far too delicate to be left outdoors alone. The average life span for an outdoor cat is 2 years, for an indoor cat, 14 years and more. My semi-feral rescue boy got over it, just needed lots of love & reassurance when he wasn't nagging to go out. Just about the time you think you can't fight it anymore, they are starting to feel the same way & it does get better! Also a natural remedy made from flowes by Bach- Rescue Remedy, and there is one for patience too. RR calms them, I find it fabulous for PMS too! You canrub it (2-3 drops) on the inside of their ear. Hang in there , both *0* of ^..^ you ! flick the nose Hopefully, she is spayed also!
