The reason you're meant to starve your cat, is because he/she might react badly to the anaesthetic. Your cat will most probably vomit up the anaesthetic, and might even have spasms. I advise you to postpone surgery. Hopefully he will not vomit while under anesthesia and aspirate it into his lungs and get pneumonia and die.

DID YOU TELL THE VET HE ATE? They're not supposed to eat because it will make them very sick. I would tell the vet what happened, they may want to postpone the surgery. YOU DO NOT FEED THEM AFTER MIDNIGHT SO THEY DO NOT GET HERT OR HAVEAN EMERGENCY. if your cat has alread been neutered and hasnt had any problems he probably wont have any. the reason they tell you to not feed for 12 to 16 hours before the proceedure is this gives time for the food in their stomach to digest. they dont want the animal to vomit while under anesthesia and asperate the vomit into the lungs. Thewy only tell you that so incase he gets sick from the anesthesia, he wont choke on his vomit, same as with humans. you should let the vet know he ate before. to avoid ant complications. The thing is that animals are just like human beings, when told not to eat before any type of surgical procedure. He can vomit and suffocate if he is still under the drugs that they gave him, The best thing to do is advise the Veterinarian that you feed your cat, and how long ago, He will make the decision to go with it or not.
