Basically it depends on the cat. You can tell which spot they like to be scratched the most by paying attention to their reaction. A positive one (purring, rubbing against you, trying to be pet some more) means pet me again, just like that before. A negative reaction (scratching, biting, hissing, big swishing tale) means if you ever touch me there again I'm going to kill you and hide the body.
