Firstly, do you think his owner should pay for the stuff (or at least apologise?) He says we should keep our doors shut. Secondly, what's a good way to stop him from chewing? I think he's just bored, what are some good toys?

Yes your flattmate should replace your things. The Kong is a great toy. You can also find a product called " NO Bite" at your local pet store it smalls and tastes like Sour green apples. Spray this on shoes, cords and anything else you dont want him to chew on. It is made for puppies and they will only chew one time when they get the taste in their mouth and will not come back to it. This broke my dogs really fast. They are still puppies and do not chew on anything that is not theirs. He is bored but the kong with peanut butter keeps them entertained for hours. Good Luck this dog is certainly in need of rawhide bones and toys and the owner should pay for anything that he has chewed. Yeah, tell him to apologize, he gets angry about his stuff but not yours! And yes it sounds like the puppy is bored or maybe teething. There are lots of cool toys. Get a dog bone, dogs go crazy over them, preferrably from the nylabone brand. First, I think that you should be reimbursed for your loss, then you should keep your door closed. A really good toy is the kong. You can buy one's that you stuff with treats. My dog's love them and never chew my stuff. An alternative is a ham bone from a pet store, you can fill it with peanut butter. YES HE SHOULD PAY FOR UR RUINED THINGS AND YES U SHOULD KEEP UR DOOR SHUT yes he is bored and needs some toys of his own and some discipline from his owner. because he is definately bored. obviously the owner isn't playing with him or trying to train him. get him rubber toys and ropes and big chew bones from the pet store. eat a steak and give him the bone or buy a ham bone from the market for him. .. if u want to keep the flatmate, keep ur stuff in ur room with the door closed until the dog is trained. I think the owner should AT LEAST apologize. It is rude not to, and it is easy to burn bridges that way too.
