Thanks everyone for your replies when I said his urine was dark I didnt mean BLOOD dark God I am not that stupid if it were that bad he would be at the vet. He is on dried dog food which he is not keen on so we tend to give him bits and pieces of food through the day which I know is not good.How do I get him back to eating dog food alone,maybe dried food is not the answer?

lol lol lol he's got you wrapped round his little paw lol lol, i have 2 Jack's and boy oh boy are they stubborn, What you need to do Hun is get a tin dog food Butchers or pedigree chum, (a good brand) don't mix anything in this just give him the contents as his evening meal, give him his dry food in the morning/afternoon, make sure he has plenty of fresh water, if his wee is still dark, try and give him tin food only, dry food might not agree with him. :-) try mixing some pieces of food with it.. or maybe make some gravy to put on it.. i think you can by dog gravy in bottles.. You will need to introduce it to his diet gradually ie first meal would be mainly dry food and a little ordinary dog food, then increase the ordinary whilst decreasing the dried until you're there et voila Don't just feed him dry food - an all dry food diet can cause problems with his kidneys.

Dogs should be given at least one meat meal a day. We feed ours a dog mince called Prize Choice, which most garden and pet centres will sell. They have a complete dried food down all day to supplement their diet. they eat it if they are hungry. Once you feed a dog things he likes, and you want get him back to the previous stuff, you have to wean him off of the undesirable stuff slowly, or he just may quit earting for a few days in rebellion. well just don't feed him from your plate anymore and leave his food down even if its dry.. HE will eat it eventually. He needs two types of dog food to keep him healthy - dry and wet.
