Fill the hole in again.

Take some of the dog's own poop and place it on top of the ground.

Lay the dog poop in your flowerbeds, they will soon learn it's no fun to dig in their own poop. Refreshen every few weeks to keep the training going.

Tips

Buy 1-2 foot wire fencing (chicken, hog or garden wire) and bend it along the bottom of your fenced yard with a few inches up the fence and the rest lying on the ground. The grass will soon grow over the fencing. Your dog will not be able to dig out of the yard.

Warnings

Careful where you dig when planting, and wear gloves. try sprinkling chili powder around your plants. it wont hurt the dog but he wont like it either Most dogs dig because they are bored and they like to dig. =) You can give them a place in the yard like a dirt box that it is okay to dig and reward them by hiding treats in there for them to find. Also you can give them new toys to play with in the yard to keep them entertained. My dogs love tennis balls covered in peanut butter we had a problem with our dog doing that and aswell as this he always weed and made our grass yellow.I didnt like my kids going out when my garden was manky so we built a cheap paddock for him and all stopped. (just make sure you take him for long walks every day )

GOOD LUCK ! He is bored. Heelers are very intelligent working dogs who need constant stimulation. Labs are much the same, but not so much.
