If he whines and begs for treats you can give him (in limited quantities, mind you) carrot pieces, apple pieces, or low-calorie biscuits. Try to encourage more exercise as well. Cut back on the food you are feeding him now. Plus if he is getting treats cut them out. Diet dog food usually just has more "fillers" and is not worth the extra you pay. I have never been a big fan of "Diet Dog-foods". Try to increase your dogs activities level. If you just feed a diet dog food, hopefully your Min Pin will eat it mine never would. Exercise burns calories and we all know what just sitting around watching TV does.
Cut the amount you currently are feeding in half. If you feel guilty about the very small portion you are feeding your dog you can add green beans to their feedings as these will act as fillers with out adding weight gain. Try Solid Gold dog food for small breeds.
