He's a year and a half old, neutered. He wears a "bad boy pad" when he's loose in the house, but takes it off if he's in his cage. He really doesn't seem to be a "marker" anyway.

Normally dogs won't pee in their crate because that's their bed and they want it clean. Maybe he's in there too long and he can't hold it anymore so he pees outside of it. maybe give him more space than a "crate". Sure he is small, but if he had a outside doghouse he might pee outside. i wouldnt put him in a cage i would teach him to go outside and use the bathroom if he goes inside put his face by it and say no like you mean it and put him out side were he should go and give him a treat when he goes out side he will get it after a while good luck and give him a kiss for me your friend jeff This happened to my puppy when he would be in there for a while when I was out (like 4 hrs) and then when I would let him out of it I would be putting his leash on and he would pee. This was because his bladder was not capable of holding it in. If this is what is happening to you I suggest you pick the dog up and carry him outside to relieve himself and then give him a treat when he goes. Dogs won't pee if you carry them well at least they never have on me! good luck. cover the gate or get a better bad boy pad that stays on better
