why does this keep happening?
Answers:
See a vet about your dogs ears. Probably because you are introducing an infection when you clean his ears. He needs to be seen by a vet.he probably has ear mites which your cleaning wont cure. As dragon said but also remember not to use water as you can never quite get his ears completely dry. That would make a perfect breeding place for all sorts of infections. Get an ear rinse from your vet and ask him to show you how to clean the ears correctly. Some dogs are prone to infections. Make sure it is not a mite issue by taking the dog to the vet. Be sure not to over clean your dogs ears. That is just as bad as not cleaning them at all. What are you using to clean your dog's ears? It really makes a difference! Unfortunately labs have these cute floppy ears that get very little air, if any, and when you clean them they stay wet in all those little hidden areas. You really need to take the guy to the vet because they can give you the proper meds for him and show you how to clean his ears the correct way. You don't ever want to use water because it isn't doing him any good. You can also cause him to get a strange type of infection that a lot of Labs get that causes them to go deaf! It smells horrible and is extremely painful.
We can give you advice and even tell you what type of medication to use but you won't be able to purchase it without a prescription from your vet. They can instruct you on proper procedure and will even show you until you understand exactly how to do it! If they don't and become frustrated with you, you are going to the wrong Vet! I don't know where you live but there are several, I'm sure, in your town that must have a reputation above the others. Call around! Look in the phone book, but, just because they have the biggest advertisement doesn't mean they are the best! Beleive it or not ask them when you call! "Are you the best Vet there is?" IF they himhaw around, hang up politely and move on to the next.
P.S. when you take your dog in, he will tell you weather they are good or not by the way he reacts to them.
Good Luck Little One and take care! Aw,c'mon! Further on you're asking about MITES!
You don't have a clue WHAT you're dealing with ,DO YOU? Mites, infection,YEAST infection?
You're dinking around *&* POKING in it's ears are MAKING IT WORSE!
Break down & have a VET diagnose WHAT the problem is *&* give the CORRECT treatment!
