Angelfish are cichlids which are supposed to prefer pellets to flakes, but it is my experience that the flakes are far easier for them to eat. I have fed both to my fish, and the pellets just float there for a long time and mucky up the water. The flakes get eaten quickly, and whatever makes it to the bottom gets eaten by a good bottomfeeder. Both , plus worms if you have them. Feed it to 'em see if they eat it! They'll eat both.

If you use pellets, just make sure they are not too big for the fish to swallow yes, I have an angelfish that I feed flakes. I've had him for three going-on-four years now. Every once in a while I feed him some freeze-dried worms (the ones that come in little cubes in a plastic tube) Freshwater angelfish will ravenously eat flakes. I've had one for over two years and he's big and strong. I believe pellets are for bottom feeders.
