Guppies are livebearers. It is much easier to breed them then spawning fish like goldfish. Take your goldfish back to the store and buy some livebearers instead. You can choose from mollies, platys, swordtails and guppies (see here for some of the vairaitions of each type) http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ. . A heater is reccomended, but not absolutely necessary, and you take care of them the same way as goldfish. You only need to finely crumble the food for fry. You will need a lot of decorations and plants to keep the fry from becomming dinner however. I find that mollies are least likely to eat their young. Buy three females for every male.

A Goldfish do not get pregnant, they lay eggs.

Even livebearers like guppies, swordtails, platys and mollies do not get *pregnant* like mammals do, they simply carry their eggs inside their bodies. Goldfish are much harder to breed. They lay eggs and it's best to have 1 female and a couple of males together. Sexing is also difficult. Goldfish aren't mature until around 2-3 years of age. The males get tubricles (white bumps) on their gill covers and females will be very round and fat looking.

I guess you could say guppies are "pregnant".they do give live birth. Where the hecky is ayrshire? PLEASE DON'T there are enough goldfish out there already living in bowls and aquariums too small for them. They are supposed to be large fish and even a four foot tank is small for them.
