What to look for and ask when go..

Okay so I am starting to look at new stables after a break from riding.. My old stable was horrible and I dont think the instructor was certified.. So.. 

Okay so I am starting to look at new stables after a break from riding.. My old stable was horrible and I don't think the instructor was certified.. So I want to know when I go to a new stable to watch a lesson what should I look for as red flags and what things should I look for that would be good? What should I ask the instructor?

I think certification or degrees can be a good thing, but they are not a guarantee of quality instruction. I think some folks out there place their hand on a rock, look toward the sky and proclaim they are an instructor or trainer. This applies in all disciplines and all area where you might want an instructor or trainer.

Things that I would want to know.

1. What do they teach? Does it fit what you want? A cutting horse barn won't suit your desire to ride five-gaited horses.

2. How much are lessons? Do you want to pay each time or would you want a discount by buying a package of lessons? Is there a cancellation policy for you missing and/or your instructor? Not much annoys me more than a flakey instructor that doesn't show up and doesn't call to tell you that. Are there make up lessons? (May depend if you are riding in groups, semi-private or private lessons.)

3. What is the instructor's experience? Even if they no longer are showing horses, there should be a history of teaching, training, showing and hopefully currently preparing riders and/or horses for the same.
