wouldn't it be easier to store square eggs?
Answers:
Well,i also wondered the same thing.Up until yesterday,i wondered why they were oval.I live on a farm,so one of our chickens hatched five little chicks yesterday. As i was examining these chicks,to make sure they were ok.I noticed that,The shape of a little chicks body,is that exact shape of an egg.If it were square,we wouldnt have chickens or eggs, because the chicken would be unable to pass the egg.It is simply how they were made, and over time they have evolved. There are many different breeds of chickens as well as many different colors. Each lays a different kind of egg.Whether the egg be of different color or different shape(some lay eggs that are shaped slightly different). With the eggs being oval it is the perfect shape for the chick, and allows it to have that tight warm space to reside in until it hatches.Have a good day!! How would you like to pass a square egg? Think I thought that was a good question til I read your details. One word answer:
OUCH! It would probably be easier for human beings to store but, I really dont think Mother Nature cares. It would be awfully hard for a hen to lay something square. The advantage of the oval shape vs. round shape is pretty simple. Take a bouncy ball and set it on a table, what does it do? Well, it rolls. Now, do the same thing with an egg and watch what happens. Sure, it rolls to but, it tends to roll in a circular pattern and not fall off a table which, is useful when you think a bird may lay its eggs in a tree or on a cliff. Hope thats helpful! I would think that square eggs might hurt in delivery. My understanding is the shell is semi soft when it is passed..so unless you can find a chicken with a square a$ $hole you are out of luck..I guess God didnt think of everything! because I said so. Circle eggs would just roll and break easily, squaress ones, well, thats for sqaures. Now are you telling me you are a sqaure? Eggs are oval because it is one of the strongest structures in nature. If the egg was perfectly round it would be weak and easy to crush. No matter how hard I tried, I could never pound a square peg through an oval hole. actually I vote for Daniel B's answer, I heard this somewhere on a science podcast The shape of the oval is an advanced, dome-like feature that protects the embryo. Also, take the perspective of the predator, how will an animal swallow a square egg? The food chain has to be balanced. Imagine cracking a square egg open over a frying pan? The shell would be unstable and crumble, resulting in remnants of shell in your eggs. Thank goodness for oval eggs. nope Definitely, but think of the poor hen!
