some horses can become wonderful to work with when taught correctly No absolutely not. It does not need to be a battle, It sounds like your horse does not trust you, If you have a 'round pen' i suggest catching your horse and lungeing her there untill she is panting, if you have no round pen get a lunge lead (a very long rope made to run horses in a circle to excersize and tire them.) And after that gently pull your horse with the lead closer to you, i suggest giveing her a slice of apple with a flat palm or even a horse treat. put your hand out under her nose and blow your scent into her nostrals so she will reconize you, depending on her previous owner she could have suffered abuse. If i knew more of the situation i could tell you more but it will help also to take your horse on a halter and lead rope and walk with her, if she is behind you she may understand better that you are the lead horse. It takes patiance and practice and lots of tlc to make your horse understand that you are her heard leader and she can trust you.

I wish i could help you more When people get frustrated with their horse, most likely the horse is also frustrated with its owner as well. You two are not communicating. I would highly recomend you hire an instructor or trainer to work with you a few times. Find someone who will teach you how to interact with your horse in a possitive manner. Horsemanship comes with time patience and dedication. Don't try to do this alone - you will only end up more frustrated and so will your horse. it can be both the battle and it can be teamwork. but you just have to be patient with the horse because if you force it to do something to strenuous it will be a battle for the 2 of you. the easier you go the easier the training will be for the both of you. remember to be patient and take your time with the training process. good luck You are the one causing the battle..you need to show her that you are in charge! Try not to show emotion..I had an old mare that was barn spoiled and after she found out that I wasn't kidding around she stopped. Respect her and she will respect her. Same routine everyday.love her.and show her who is boss. She knows she can get away with it until you show her she can't A rider and a horse should work as a team.
