personally, I think a gold fish ranks up there among the top contenders. but if that's the choices, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig and then chinchilla - in that order. none of those..fish especially guppies.feed them twice a week and clean their fish tank when it gets dirty try a pet rock! no care at all!

.I think of your list that the chinchilla would be the hardest to care for, because they have to have the sand to bathe in. well out of those 4 the answer is hamster. But they dont live very long why get a pet if you dont want to put effort into caring for it I'd say hamster. The answere to your question would probably have to be Gerbil or Hamster. Reasons include Guinea pigs are lame and you have to constantly feed them and chinchilla's are rather larger..Although Hamsters breed really fast.be careful A stuffed animal.

All the pets you mention need lots of care and attention. Please get books about all of them before you make a decision. The top 3 are pretty much the same. i would think a chinchilla would need some special care. Why do you want a pet but don't want to take care of it?

Get a pet rock you lazy.

All of those require fresh water daily, clean cages every 3-4 days and fresh food daily. If your primary concern is low maintenance, then you probably don't need to be taking care of another living creature. A pet is supposed to be just that. a pet..not something left in a cage/pen all the time, with food/water tossed at it on occasion. Chinchillas aren't really pets you can interact with so much; they are more fun to watch, as they tend to become timid when handled. They do require a lot of care, though, due to their requirements for a desert environment.
