I'm not going to recite a veterinary web site for you, but I will say that bald patches down the back, on the tail, and sometimes in a cross over the shoulders, as well, are a sign of adrenal gland tumors or malfunction. This condition can be deadly, but also is treatable and manageable in many ferrets for a good amount of time. It is a very common condition in ferrets of the age range you mention. You are going to need to take your ferret to the vet for an evaluation of the condition. Often, the condition is also found with urinary stones and blockages, particularly if the ferret is male, and preventive measures may need to be taken. Good luck!
