Hamsters are short sighted and will bite the first time and few times after plus they are nocturnal so they wont be up when your child is up to play with it. Rats are smarter creatures and have a longer lifespan and when its used to your child then they're loyal as anything. Rats are also more playful compared to alot of other caged animal. rats almost always urinate when they walk..so you decide! They are great pets, at the moment I have an agouti hooded male called spike, they are very friendly and well behaved(most of the time!!), can be trained very easily, love attention.
Pictures of my rat can be seen on my 360. hes very cool! no think hard about it because they really smell, my friend had one and every time you went into her house it stunk but she could,nt smell it Yes my mates daughter is 10 and has one only prob is they die at 2 year old Rats make excellent pets. If your kid is willing to spend time with it, training it and getting to know it, then I really recommend a rat as a pet.
They are so much more fulfilling than hamsters! Rats are surprisingly intelligent and can be taught things. But I really must stress that if your child has no time for his/her pet then a hamster would be better as rats thrive on challenge! rats are great pets for children they last longer than hamsters are friendlier and are bigger to handle a good size tank or specially designed rat cage they can be brought from the pet shop or sometimes second hand. feed regular rat food brought from the pet shop ie reggie rat and fruit and veg get the rat from a good pet shop or a breeder where the rats are handled regularly so as they are used to it they are loads of fun when i have kids thats what they will have rather tha mice etc as they are so much better They make excellent pets are very clean .
