is three and a half feet long. I feed her 2 adult mice each week. When she is done eating them, she still hunts for more. How many mice is enough for ..

I don't want to feed her rats until I absolutely have to. I had an adult b.p that ate rats but, she was full grown when I got her so I'm not sure when I should start them. Also the pet store I deal with always has mice but they don't always have rats.

I haven't seen a correct answer yet, so I thought I'd give you my input.

2 or 3 mice once a week will be fine for the rest of your snake's life. She will grow faster with more food, but it isn't necessary. Also, Balls are very good at adjusting their food intake. If you feed them too much they will stop eating until they "catch up" which could take months. This is probably why they get the repuation of being picky eaters. They are also imprint feeders so you might find that she won't switch over to rats very easily because they smell different than mice.

Although it is true that rats are more nutritious than mice, nobody knows what the nutritional REQUIREMENTS are for Balls so one shouldn't assume that rats are better than mice for Balls. I have seen HUGE 4000+ gram balls that were fed exclusively on mice. That is a lot of food one a week or even every other week is sufficient, and maybe it is just exploring for a place to rest and digest it's meal. I think you may be over feeding her. My friend's snake actually got sick from eating like that and had to be given shots at the vet. Talk to your vet. a good rule of thumb is a mouse per/foot 3-4 mice is what she should b eating .i have had boa's my whole life.this is what has been shown 2 me..hope this helps! You could try some young rats and see how she does. I'm sure she could eat a couple of them very easily but, you might keep an eye on her to make sure she o.k. during the feeding period. Otherwise, I would try feeding her at least four mice during each feeding. It sounds like her appetite is growing! A snake that size should easily be able to eat a small rat about twice a month or so. My fiancee has had her ball python for thirteen years. She used to feed her 6 mice a week and she was still hungry. Then she switched over to one medium sized rat every other week.
