They stop eating right around now and in March when it starts warming up they will shed and you know they are out of it and ready to eat again. there are two common reasons why snakes won't eat. 1. when it's going to shed and 2. when it starts getting cold. I've raised King snakes and they're pretty hardy snakes. if it's the shedding thing, it's eyes will start to cloud over soon, if they don't might be hibernating time and their eating habits will change. NOTE: if your snake is holding it's mouth opened bit, check it for mouth rot. It's a bacteria that cultures from saliva and can be cured by just getting some boric acid and with a swab, apply it around the lips and gums. It will be reddish in color and could be inflamed so check it carefully. hope this helps. PS, If it does shed, have some food for it because it will be real hungry right after shedding. it depends on the age of the snake actually. But it is time for him to hybernate if he is more than 1 and a half years old. You cool him till the spring time at a temperature of around 40 to 50 degree. N leave a lot of water in the cage for him and make sure the area is dark also..Then he/she will also be ready to breed by the time u get them out. Other than that snakes just get like that sometimes.or maybe try feeding him another snake they tend to get pretty agressive when you put another snake in the cage, and he/she will eat it very fast, actually thats there favorite food hense the name.. Is this the first time your snake hasn't eaten or is it a new snake that has never eaten for you before? Also, the type of snake could make a difference. If it's a new snake that's never eaten before, it could be under stress. Grey-banded kingsnakes can be extremely difficult to get to eat in the beginning and generally are not a beginner's snake.
A few more details might help to solve the reason: breed of snake, temperature on hot & cold side of cage, humidity level, what kind of heat source are you using, how long have you owned the snake.
