If they seem to be only eating the brains I would try a food higher in protein or even give them nuts to eat as a supplement. If they are eating more than that, they may need to be fed more often. They will also use their babies as food if they do not feel that there is an adequate food supply in the cage. This is both as a source of food as well as a prevention of overpopulation and subsequent shortage of food. When you have a litter of babies make sure you feed AND water the hell out of the adults so that they have a surplus. (My rats are the same way about the babies and I have found this to work). You cannot keep hamsters together!
