As already mentioned, the lizard's tail is meant to keep wriggling as a distraction for predators. When severed, the nervous tissue in the tail keeps sending out electrical signals that causes the muscles to contract, causing spasms that make the tail wriggle. After some time the wriggling dies when the muscle cells no longer recieve enough oxygen, or when the nerve signals stop. Nerves. Nerves firing off in the tail. it is a survival adaptation. the wiggling keeps the predators attention, while the lizard escapes. i know that's creepy! it wiggles! :-X
