Where can I give away my pet rat..

Ive had my pet rat for a about three months now and cant take care of him any more. Hes very friendly, active and playful. Wheres can I give him away ..

post an add here, and the workers of this website will ensure that your rat will go into a loving caring home Ask everyone in your family.. like little cousins. If they dont want it ask friends, also a really good idea is to post an ad in a local newspaper, a little ad isnt very expensive but make sure you don't just let the little guy go in the wild because he won't survive. good luck. Check with your local humane society humane sociaty Your best bet would be a humane society if there is one near you...otherwise, if you advertise him - unless you ask a fairly good amount of money for him - you take the risk of him going to someone as food for another pet. Humane societies tend to screen people and will ask enough money for the animal that it lessens the risk of this happening.

Glad to hear you want to find him a good home... :o) I would ask around- schools, teachers, friends, families, etc. I had 5 pet rats before I had to give away because we were moving :(, and ended up finding my boy and my little sisters boy a good home in my science teachers classroom. She bought them a HUGE cage, hideouts, treats, etc; better yet I still got to see them every science class. My sisters two girls found a good home on craigslist.com They went to a couple and their two 8 year old daughters. The remaining rat, Toby, died a week before we moved :( You can try putting him up for adoption at Petco, that is originally how we got the 5 rats. You don't have to supply a cage, petco usually has extras, but you can if you want to be reassured he wont get stuck in some tiny cage and make the transition easier on him. Just be sure to call in ahead of time to ask. So ask teachers and friends first, if you still cant find a home, then I would look on craigslist.com. on the site I have rehomed 2 of our cats, and all of my fish from my 29 gallon and 1 ghost shrimp. There are a lot of wierdos in the world, so it is best to post a fee of like 5 bucks, but if the person interested calls or emails you drop the fee- that is what I have done. It just assures you that he wont be going for snake food. If you have had something on criagslist.com for awhile and still no luck, then as a last resort I would give him to Petco adoption center. this is a great group put up adds near your local vet office, and ask around Some pet stores or vets will take unwanted animals. Some time they will keep them as the office/store pet. Check online for rat rescues or breeders in your area. It's a shame you have only had him for three months and you don't want him anymore.
