Which do you prefer: hamster or ..

Brief：
I am debating wether I want a hamster or gerbil. Both seem like nice little friends but if there is anyone out there who has had both and has any inpu..

1) they don't smell as bad

2) i have been bitten by gerbils but never hamsters

3) hamsters are soo much cuter!! Gerbil, They are more social to humans and other gerbils, (hamsters are solitary), gerbils are not nocternal, and they bite less me personally I perfer a gerbil. I have had guinea pigs, hansters, gerbils,etc. Any rodent. Gerbils do bite a lot but they're really nice once they know you. neither, they both smell bad and bite. i recomend rats, they do not bite and are more sociable. Gerbil's, Because they seem to connect more with there owners. They tend to be more affectionate as well. They don't smell as bad, Although I would suggest getting a well vandalized cage..they will smell a lot less rather than a cage with bad vitalization.

Gerbils also like to be handled more(in my experience) I have had hamsters, mice, rats, and gerbils...I prefer gerbils.

Good luck :) hamster. I have two dwarf hamsters My friend accidentally throw her hamster and it lived and wasn't pissed at us. Then my other friend was just holding the class gerbil (he wasn't hurting it or anything) and it bite his finger to the point where it wouldn't let go!

SO I've always liked hamsters more for that reason, i reccomend guinea pigs. i'm not sure how long gerbils live but hamsters only live 2 years, which is hardly worth. guinea pigs can live up to 8 years, and are very social animals Gerbil!! I have had 8 so far, and they are great in pairs. They aren't too social, and they love to sleep alot, but they are adorable and have the cutest little tails. Also, they aren't as prone to eating as hamsters, and dont get as fat. also, they love toilet paper rolls to chew,, fyi. i love hamsetrs more i hear gerbils bite and rats bite also and so do mice and rats are vicious creeatures and mice my mom is flipping scared of them and i hate them cause they can give you rabies cause thats whta my mom told me Gerbils, here's why-http://www.abcgerbils.com/versus.shtmll... Hampster they are more fun and are friendlier hadboth never been bit by hampster but gerbil over and over we finally got rid of it We've had our share of both and I find gerbils to be more friendly. Ours have never bitten us except for little exploratory nibbles, but have never drawn blood. They're very curious and come out to see us whenever they hear us moving about in the room. They do occasionally make some noise at night, but not so much as hamsters. I can't decide which one I like better, but this info might help.
