Which to get..Male or Female Rat..

I dont know if i should get a male rat or a female rat i have heard males tend to pee alot but are more affectionate and that females are very active ..

first and foremost get a same sex pair minimum, rats are community animals and to get only one would be akin to you sppending the reat of your llife in solitary confinement only ever seeing aliens who cannot fully understand your needs and wants.

it is a myth that having more than one means they woont bond with you, in fact being more than one usually makes them braver like they dare each other on

it is also a myth that males will fight to the death, all rats squabble over everything from who has the best tidbits to who gets the first cuddle, but males no more than females

so what to get,

males turn into big squishy cuddle monsters after about 8 months, yes they do pee to scent BUT so do the girls, once they get used to your home being their territory then they'll stop. males also like their hammocks and tubes, they just turn into typical males of all species laying back enjoying life. males cages need to be more floor space than height

girls stay nosey hyper playful kits, whatever age they get to, they will still be pinging round the cage at 2 years as they were at 4 months. they will be into everything and everywhere, they still like their cuddles but will soon be off again to see what else they can steal, play with, pounce on or run up
