It's definately sad, considering unclipping one from a plastic bottom is not hard. I know some people remove the bottom part, and cover the shelves with lino or something for the rats, although any hamster I've had would've ate lino.. :-/. Let's hope more people realise the wire isn't safe. That is a great qustion that i would love answered, not only can it break there foot it can cause bubmle foot, so I'm thinking its becuase its cheaper materials. They're dangerous & uncomfortable. I wish they would stop selling them. Same goes for cedar & pine shavings as well as all those unhealthy treats with dangerous preservatives, too much fat & sugar etc.
It's terrible that so many retailers are more interested in profit than in the comfort & health of our little guys.
