Did you say you bathe your hamster in the last bit? I hope I read wrong, because this actually kills hamsters!
As for the hair loss, it could be a hormonal imbalnce so with anything thats not right you must seek a proffessional opinion from a vet. Its your responsibility as a pet owne to do this. People on the yahoo Forum can only guess!! some hamsters lose hair due to a bacteria called ring worm its treatable. also it could be malnutrition. i suggest taking it to your vet for a check up How old is it? maybe it is because of old age!? It could be what both the other posters have suggested. Another possible cause could be fleas. Make sure you wash your hands real good after handling him, in case it is ringworm, I suggest having a vet take a look at him. Good luck. This is a classic tale of mites. Don't buy pine litter, only yeasterday's news or similar. Buy some seven dust at wal mart, it is pesticide for flowers, but works wonders with rodents. When you clean the cage sprinkle a good amount of it on the bottom of the cage before you add the litter. When you put him back each time you clean it, dust his back with seven dust. I'm a rodent expert and I know what I'm taking about. I have over a decade of experience. could be some fungal virus in his fur.I usually use tea tree oil spray.spray some on his fur covering the eyes and rub it in with a towel or hands.helps treat any bites or worms and keeps coat healthy... it is probably mites. It usually goes away but if the hair does not grow back in another month, take him to the vet and get medicine for him.
