Will paper towels choke my teddy..

Well, I heard that you tear pieces of aper and put it into the cage and the hamsters will put it in there mouth and bring it to its nesting area. Will it choke my hamster when she puts small pieces of paper towels in her mouth?

oh, you are in for some serious fun! My hams love shredded paper towels, toilet paper, tissue (anything soft and without dye in it really). They'll cram as much of it into their little maws as they can, traipse off to their corner of preference and ta-da! its like watching the magician with the handkerchief up his sleeve. It just keeps coming and coming and coming (still dry too). Trust me (and my many tiny hams) there's nothing dangerous about it. It makes them happy and gives you a good laugh. When my little hams are sick all they get in their cages are paper towels and they spend hours rearranging it 'just so'. Spoil your little one well - they're worth it ;) No, they love toilet paper and etc. Give them whole squares of toilet paper and they will tear them up themselves. That is what they prefer to do. No, it won't. And yes, they do take the paper and line their nest. Just don't make it too small, or too large, we alwyas tor it into strips about 1" wide by 4-6" long. No, at worst it would probably eat it. Animals that would choke themselfs in such a way are long dead and have stopped contributing to the gene pool of they species.

Paper alone might not be a good idea since it might get soggy with its saliva, try wood chipings and anything else the little bugger can chew on. It helps if you let him (her?) break it up himself so putting the paper in whole or crumpled would help him since he has to gnaw on something anyways. I'd recomend cardboard or some other hard paper... in my opinion paper towels are to weak and would propably become some sort of ball in his mouth due to the loose fibers. This might be the reason someone told you it could choke, just give em cardboard, a soft piece of wood (at least its size) and a hard piece of wood (if it REALY feels like gnawing).
