i'm giving you a link because i'm no good at naming them off the top of my head and still learning there are more kinds then just hooded!

i knew there were more then that, although thats all that i currently have in my home. tail-less There are two divisions of rats, but many different subdivisions of these two divisions. The following are the types of rats in thier prespective divisions.

1) BROWN RAT

Norway rat

House rat

Gray rat

Barn rat

Wharf rat

These types are mostly grayish-brown, with a lighter colored stomach. A fully-grown rat in this division is 18 to 26 cm long and weighs between 400 and 600 gm. They have a tail shorter than its body and their nose and muzzle are blunt. They prefer moist conditions and nest in deep burrows.

2. ROOF RATS

Black rats

ship rats Well, I was going to get a rat once so I did a lot of research about them and these are the ones that I found: Rex(I think they have a pattern of hair and hairless spots),Velvet(velvety fur(duh...) blue,(gray colored fur),and hairless.
